Lupiani Fourth, Leon-Duque Fifth at All-State Meet

SALEM, Mass. -- Mount Everett's Bradley Lupiani and Monument Mountain's Mark Leon-Duque each qualified for New Englands on Saturday at the All-State Wrestling Championships.
 
Lupiani placed fourth at 132 pounds, and Leon-Duque was fifth at 170. The top six wrestlers in each weight class at the all-divisions meet qualify for next weekend's regionals.
 
Both Berkshire County wrestlers who survived to the second day of the two-day All-State meet ended up in rematches against the wrestlers they faced in the championship round of last week's Division 3 championships.
 
Leon-Duque squared off against Sabis' Kolby Smith in the first consolation semi-final and earned a 2-1 victory.
 
The Spartan then dropped a 7-1 decision to Methuen's Darius Franklin in the second consy semi-final, dropping Leon-Duque into the fifth-place match.
 
Chelmsford's Kyle McQuaide from Division 1 forfeited the fifth-place match, moving Leon-Duque one step further up the podium.
 
Leon-Duque went 4-2 on the weekend, recording a pin in his first round of the consolation bracket on Friday.
 
He helped Monument finish with 13 points at the meet.
 
The top finishing school from Berkshire County was Mount Everett with 17 points, keyed by Lupiani's run to the finals of the consolation bracket.
 
The all-time wins leader at Mount Everett added three more victories to his resume this weekend, going 3-2.
 
His Saturday started in the semi-finals of the championship bracket, where Lupiani dropped a 7-2 decision to Dracut's Jon Ryan.
 
The Eagle bounced back with an 8-3 win over D1 wrestler Tommy McDonough of Westford Academy, setting the stage for Lupiani's rematch with Pentucket's Josh Wesolowski in the consolation final.
 
For the second week in a row, Wesolowski ended the weekend with a win over Lupiani. Last week, it was for a state championship. On Saturday, Wesolowski prevailed, 9-2, to claim third place.
