Meisberger Leads Lenox Girls to Third Place at Sectional

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Shannon Meisberger repeated her Central/Western Mass Division 2 Championship in the 400-meter hurdles and placed second in two more events Saturday to lead the Lenox girls track and field team to a third-place finish at the sectional meet at Westfield State College.
 
Meisberger, a senior heading to Georgetown University in the fall, easily won the 400 hurdles in a time of 1 minute, 3.56 seconds, nearly four seconds ahead of runner-up Alexandra Gonet of Pope Francis.
 
Meisberger’s teammate, sophomore Tate Morrison, placed fourth in the event in 1:08.73, just ahead of Monument Mountain’s Allison Kinne (1:09.45).
 
In the 200, Meisberger went 25.55 to place second behind Bromfield’s Chloe Alfieri (25.30). Meisberger was .24 off the pace in the 400, where Lauren Eddy of Grafton was victorious in 58.39.
 
Lenox’s Magdalena Sorrentino placed fourth in the 800 meter run, finishing in 2:20.19. That event was won by Mohawk Trail junior Lilly Wells in 2:17.44. The Millionaires’ Emma Jourdain was fifth in the two-mile run in 11:43.19.
 
Wahconah’s Victoria Gamberoni won the two-mile run in 11:17.85 to help her team place 17th out of 39 teams scoring at the sectional.
 
The event was won by Bromfield with 98.5 points. South Hadley was a distant second with 55.5 points followed by Lenox with 45.
 
Mount Greylock placed seventh with 27 points. Monument Mountain was 13th with 22 points.
 
The Mounties got a second-place finish from freshman Maddie Albert in the 100. She finished just behind Alfieri, who won the final by a margin of .23 seconds -- 12.40 to 12.63.
 
Albert also finished on the podium in the 800, where she placed sixth with a time of 2:21.52.
 
Mount Greylock got a fifth-place finish from Hannah Locklear in the 100 hurdles. She clocked a 16.74 to finish behind Gonet, who won with a time of 15.35.
 
 In the field, the Mounties got a third-place and a fifth-place in the discus, won by Frontier’s Olivia Vecellio (100 feet, 9 inches). Mount Greylock’s Elizabeth Bartlett was third with a mark of 99-0; Amaya Smith was fifth with a toss of 94-7.
 
Mounties senior Dagny Albano medaled in the shot put, placing seventh with a throw of 30-5. Whitinsville’s Tatiana Wiersma won with a 38-6-½.
 
Finishing just behind Meisberger in the 400 final was Monument Mountain’s Aubrey Blanchard in third at 1:00.13. The Spartans got an eighth-place finish from Jasmin Johannsdottier in the 800 (2:21.56).
 
Johannsdottier anchored Monument’s second-place 4-by-400 relay quartet, which included Kinne, Zufan Bazzano and Blanchard. The foursome finished in 4:11.47 behind South Hadley, which clocked a 4:06.56.
