TURNERS FALLS, Mass. — James Miller pitched a gem against the McCann Tech baseball team on Tuesday, allowing just three hits and no runs as Franklin Tech beat the Hornets 1-0 at home. Miller struck out four and walked just one to give the Eagles a key Tri-County League win.

McCann senior Mike Chappell was equally impressive on the mound as well. He also allowed three hits in the game, but gave up an RBI double to Dan Boyden in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the loss. Chappell finished with 11 strikeouts and only two walks in six innings of work.

Kyle Crosier, Dillon Carr and Sean Davis each had one hit apiece for the Hornets, who fell to 3-7 with the loss.

“We are hitting the ball hard, but they are just not falling for hits,” McCann head coach Pat Ryan said. “Chappell, once again, threw a great game. The opposing teams we play seem to put all of their hits together to get their runs. The good news is we are playing very tight baseball right now. No errors and only striking out four times says a lot. We keep playing the way we are playing, and the wins will come."

McCann next plays host to Putnam at 4 p.m. on Friday.
