NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Austin Miller struck out nine men and went 2-for-2 with a double and a triple at the plate Monday to lead the McCann Tech baseball team to a 7-2 win over Westfield Tech.

Miller allowed just one hit and no earned runs in the complete-game victory as the Hornets improved to 11-4 this season.

Miller stranded six runners and pitched around seven errors to get the “W.”

“Miller had a week’s rest and came out today and didn’t have full control,” McCann coach Pat Ryan said. “I’m still hoping to we’ll see that for Western Mass. He throws way too many pitches right now, but he still throws strikes and he’s getting batters out.

“Miller’s a gamer. He comes out and plays. He loves the sport. He gets himself down 2-0 in the count or 3-1, and he knows … He comes out and competes. He loves to win.”

McCann scored single runs in the first and second innings, but WTA tied it up with a pair in the fourth as the Hornets committed four errors.

In the bottom of the fourth, though, McCann righted the ship, using an infield single by Rob Pecor to ignite a two-run rally.

He stole second and scored on a one-out double to right by Cam Anderson to make it 3-2. Anderson went to third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch go give Miller some breathing room.

In the fifth, Miller started a three-run rally with a triple to left-center. He scored on another wild pitch, and Charlie Bohl got his own triple to center. Ryan Meehan singled to score Bohl before the Tigers got a double play that appeared to quiet things down.

But Pecor singled, moved up on a passed ball and scored on Eathan Heller’s single to make it 7-2.

McCann Tech hosts Smith Vocational on Tuesday.
