McCann Tech Baseball Falls in Western Mass Semis

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The McCann Tech baseball team Friday rallied with five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning but could not overcome an 18-run deficit, falling to St. Mary, 20-7, in the semi-finals of the Western Massachusetts Division 4 tournament.
 
Robert Matte III went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and a pair of RBIs, and Jacob Field drove in three runs for the second-seeded Hornets (21-3).
 
Logan Tower and James Hamilton each doubled.
 
Jacob Butler went 3-for-6 with a triple and three RBIs to lead a 16-hit St. Mary attack.
 
Third-seeded St. Mary moves on to Saturday's 10:30 a.m. sectional final at the University of Massachusetts against No. 1 Hopkins (16-4), a 10-7 winner over Ware on Wednesday.
