NORTHFIELD, Mass. – The Pioneer Valley baseball team Friday scored a run in the bottom of the third and held Mount Everett to three hits to earn a 1-0 win over the Eagles.

Nathaniel von Ruden, Michael Ullrich and Ian Lanoue each had a single for Mount Everett.

“Hits were hard to come by,” Mount Everett coach Dan Lanoue said. “[Ethan] Quinn was keeping us off balance with a good curveball today.

“Heyden Cutlip pitched a great game in the loss.

Cutlip struck out three, walked one and scattered five hits and allowed one unearned run to take the loss on the mound.

“Besides the unearned run, I was happy we were able to stay with Pioneer Valley, which is currently ranked fifth in the Division 5 state rankings,” Lanoue said. “Hopefully, this will give us some confidence with a busy week ahead.”

Mount Everett (7-4) goes to Lee on Monday.
