Stannard, Taconic Rally Past Mount Greylock to Stay Unbeaten

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Brendan Stannard went 2-for-4 with a triple, a double and four runs batted in Thursday to lead the Taconic baseball team to an 8-3 win over Mount Greylock.

 

With the victory, Taconic improved to 11-0 this spring and clinched a solo Berkshire County North Division title.

 

But the Mounties made Taconic work for it.

 

Mount Greylock became the first team to score more than a run against Taconic, which has seven shutout wins this season.

 

After spotting Taconic a 3-0 lead through three innings, the Mounties came back to tie it in the top of the fifth.

 

Jack Cangelosi reached on a one-out single, and Oscar Low homered to center field to make ti 3-2. Chase Doyle then doubled and scored on a single by Landen Jamula.

 

Taconic rallied for five in the bottom of the sixth to take the lead for good.

 

Stannard hit a two-run double, and Leo Arace hit a sacrifice fly in the inning.

 

Bo Bramer went 3-for-4 with a double, and Arace, Sam Sherman, Adam Lazits and Matt Lee each singled for Taconic.

 

Sherman also earned the win on the mound with six innings of work, striking out eight. Arace struck out the side in order in the seventh.

 

Cangelosi went the distance on the hill for Mount Greylock, striking out three and allowing six earned runs.

 

“I was just so proud of how our guys played and competed,” Mount Greylock coach Rick Paris said. “They showed they have what it takes. After losing, 18-0, the first meeting and then to come to their house and be tied after 5-½ innings, I couldn’t have been happier for my guys.”

 

Paris noted that his defense showed up to support Cangelosi, recording double plays in the first and second innings and throwing out a runner at the plate to end the third.

 

The Mounties (8-3) go to Pittsfield on Monday.

 

Taconic is home on Friday against the Generals, a rematch of a 6-1 Taconic win on opening day last month.
