Free Saves Monument Mountain Baseball for Third Win

GREAT BARRINGTON, Mass. -- Peter Free Saturday got the third out swinging with two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the seventh to preserve a one-run lead for the Monument Mountain baseball team, which went on to beat Wahconah, 8-6.
 
Free came on in relief with two out and two on and closed out the game, striking out two and not allowing a hit or a walk, to earn the save.
 
Jayder Raifstanger tripled, drew two walks and scored a pair of runs for the Spartans, who got a pair of RBIs from Free.
 
Marco Buffoni earned the win on the mound after going 4-2/3 scoreless innings.
 
Wahconah was down 8-0 when it rallied for six runs in the sixth.
 
Shane Bernardo doubled in a run in the two-out rally, which saw Owen Salvatore, Zach Archambault, Xavier Wellington, Dan Wilson and Owen Alfonso single.
 
Quinn Gallagher and Wellington split time on the bump for Wahconah.
 
Wahconah (0-4) goes to Mount Everett on Monday.
 
Monument Mountain (3-2) goes to Mount Everett on Wednesday.
