Local Baseball, Softball Players Heading to DI Programs

PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Four city high school seniors Tuesday signed National Letters of Intent to play Division I college baseball next year.
 
They joined a growing list of area student-athletes who are moving on to the highest level of collegiate competition.
 
At Taconic High Tuesday morning, Evan Blake, Nick Guachione and Matt Lee each signed their letters.
 
In the afternoon, Pittsfield's Cam Sime signed his commitment letter to attend and play baseball at the University of Masschusetts-Lowell.
 
Blake committed to Rhode Island's Bryant University. Guachione signed a letter to attend the University of Pennsylvania. Lee plans to enroll at Kansas State.
 
Each of the four players at the city rival schools play and train together for Pittsfield's Rip City Academy outside the high school season.
 
Meanwhile, in Great Barrington, Monument Mountain senior Jayder Raifstanger recently signed a National Letter of Intent to attend and play baseball at St. John's University in Queens, N.Y.
 
Last week at Wahconah Regional High School, senior Avery Vale-Cruz inked an NLOI to play softball at the University of Rhode Island.
