11:15PM / Tuesday, May 03, 2022

DALTON, Mass. – Cole Bissaillon hit a sacrifice fly in the top of the sixth to give the Monument Mountain baseball team a one-run lead, and the Spartans hung on for a 2-1 win over Wahconah Tuesday to stay perfect at 10-0 and qualify for the state tournament.

Monument Mountain went to the sixth trailing, 1-0.

The winning rally started when Collin Parker drew a leadoff walk.

Camden Raifstanger then dropped down a sacrifice bunt, but an error on the play allowed Parker to score and Raifstanger to go to second.

Marco Buffoni’s groundout allowed Raifstanger to go to third, where he was able to score on Bissaillon’s sac fly.

Parker earned the win on the mound, allowing just one earned run in five innings of work before giving the ball to Bissaillon in the seventh.

After Wahconah got a walk and a Charlie Wendell single to put runners at the corners, Jayder Raifstanger went to the hill for Monument Mountain.

Jared Raifstanger then struck out five over 1-⅔ innings to earn the save.

Wendell went the distance on the mound for Wahconah, striking out six and allowing just one earned run.

Ben West went 2-for-3 to lead Wahconah’s offense.

Wahconah (3-6) goes to Ludlow on Thursday.
