Drury Drops The Ball In Loss To Taconic

Staff Reports

PITTSFIELD, Mass. — After two consecutive solid outings, the Drury baseball team reverted back to its early-season ways on Wednesday, making nine errors in the field en route to a 14-7 loss at Taconic.

The Blue Devils (2-5) started off strong by scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Senior starter Max Quinn got things rolling with a long double before junior Alex Bush drove in a pair of runs with a single. Drury's 2-0 lead didn't hold up long, however, as the hosts broke out for six runs in the bottom half of the frame. The Braves then came through with a seven-run fifth inning, taking full advantage of all the extra base runners the Drury defense allowed on the day.

Quinn allowed 12 runs overall, only which three were earned, in four-plus innings of work. He struck out two and walked none before sophomore Tyler Briggs took over and recorded the final five outs of the game.

"We hit the ball well but could not catch it today," Blue Devils head coach Al Marceau said. "Max pitched well and showed a lot of heart on the mound, while we made error after error behind him. He showed a lot of class and character not letting the defensive miscues get to him. Max showed the leadership and composure we need to have to turn our season around. Hopefully, the rest of the team sees that and responds."

Luke Toomey led the Taconic offense by collecting three hits, including a double and a triple. Liam Nolan also had two doubles for the Braves, while Joe Dewey and Myles Candelet each contributed two hits and three RBIs. Marceau said he was happy to see some of the younger kids on his team perform well offensively. Bush and fellow juniors Jake DiLego and Ryan Ouimet each drove in a pair of runs, while freshman Kareen Becket finished with one RBI and a run scored.

Drury will try to regroup on Friday, when it hosts Lenox at 4 p.m.
