Blue Devils' Bats Catch Fire Against Millionaires

NORTH ADAMS, Mass — The Drury baseball team broke out of its two-game losing streak in a big way on Friday, pounding out 10 hits and taking advantage of six Lenox errors to earn a 17-3 win at Joe Wolfe Field.
A 1-1 game quickly got away from the Millionaires (3-6) in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Blue Devils (3-5) only had two hits in the frame, but took advantage of a couple of walks and five Lenox errors to break the game open with 11 runs. Senior Slayter Aubin led the way for Drury, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Classmate Max Quinn only went 1-for-1 but reached base four times on the day, driving in one run, scoring three times and stealing a pair of bases.
Junior Alex Bush also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored, while seniors Robert Jutras and Brett Denning each knocked in a pair of runs. Bush also got the win on the mound, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning before turning the ball over the Blue Devils' bullpen. He struck out nine batters and walked only two, improving his season record to 2-1 in the process.
"We were able to put some offense together in the fourth," Drury head coach Al Marceau said. "I felt our approach was better today at the plate. Alex got the start and did well not allowing any hits into the fifth. He tired a bit coming off of an arm issue from two weeks ago. If he had been at full strength, he may have been able to complete it."
Bush did enough, however, and turned the ball over to junior Kodey Bryce, who recorded the last seven outs of the game to seal the win. He allowed just one unearned run, striking out four and walking two.
"Kodey finished it up with two and one third excellent innings," Marceau said. "He has continued to improve on the mound and could be a key for us down the stretch."
The Blue Devils are home again on Monday with a game against St. Joe's at 4 p.m.
