Strapped 'Canes Lose Second Straight

ADAMS, Mass. — Four games in a four-day span had the Hoosac Valley baseball team pulling some tricks out of its bag against Pittsfield on Thursday. While three different Hurricanes' pitchers performed admirably, Hoosac was unable to get enough runs on offense to overcome one bad inning. The Generals used two singles, an error and a hit batter to score four runs in the second inning, paving their way to a 6-1 victory at Renfrew Park.

Pittsfield starter John Martin shut the 'Canes offense down for the second game in a row, allowing one run on five hits in a complete-game effort. Martin struck out five and walked one batter to pick up the win. His only blemish was allowing an RBI single to senior Zach Lancia in the bottom of the third inning. Lancia was the only Hoosac hitter to collect two hits on the day.

Sophomore Matt Braman made his second start of the season for the Hurricanes (9-6). He allowed four earned runs and two walks in three innings of work to take the loss. Senior Conner Tworig allowed one earned run in two innings of middle relief before classmate Corey Meczywor closed out the game by tossing two scoreless frames.

The Generals pounded out 10 hits overall, led by Ryan Grande's 4-for-4 day and Kevin Donati's 3-for-3 effort.

Hoosac will try to get back on track on Friday with a key South Division game at Mount Greylock at 4:15 p.m.
