WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock baseball never gave up this season, and now the Mounties seem to be playing their best baseball of the season heading into the Division 2 Western Mass. tournament.

Steve Messina's club qualified for that tournament on Tuesday, when junior starter Avery Cunningham held Taconic in check in a 10-3 win at home. Cunningham picked up his first win of the season by limiting the Braves to just one earned run on three hits over seven innings of work. He managed to work around six Greylock errors and only allowed Taconic to score single runs in the first, second and fifth innings.

The Mounties' offense, however, scored early and often, posting 10 runs through the first four innings of the game and chasing Braves' starter Luke Toomey early in the third. Senior captain Tommy Nowlan was the big producer for the Greylock offense, going 2 for 3 with four RBI and two runs scored. Nowlan connected on a two-run double to give the Mounties a 5-2 lead in the second inning and later roped a two-run double in a three-run third frame for Greylock.

Senior Kyle Byrnes and freshman Nick DiSanti each had a double, two hits and drove in one run for the Mounties, who improved to 10-8 this season after winning five out their last six games.

Greylock next hosts Holyoke Catholic at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
