Mount Greylock Wins Back-and-Forth Battle With Spartans

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. - The Mount Greylock baseball team earned its second home win this week in a 7-5 defeat over Monument Mountain on Friday.
 
The Mounties stared it off right in the bottom of the first inning, when Jake Benzinger hit a shot to center field, bringing in Eric Hirsh to take a 1-0 lead. Benzinger was out on the play.
 
Monument answered in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs and taking away the Mounties' lead, but in the bottom of the inning Dan Flynn and Andrew Rickus each scored a run.
 
Greylock then went ahead, 5-2, in the bottom of the third inning with runs from Benzinger and Ian Brink. Delaney Pudvar was struck out by Monument pitcher Josh Alan Tuck, who struck out a total of five for the game in his four innings pitched.
 
Alan Tuck, Henri Morrison, and Mike Buffoni each scored for Monument in the top of the fourth to tie it at 5-5.
 
Greylock scored its final two runs in the bottom of the fourth from Brink in Benzinger to seal the win.
 
Both teams had 1-2-3 innings in the fifth.
 
Adam Hall took over for Brodie Altiere on the mound in the top of the fourth, throwing five strikeouts for Greylock to get the win. Altiere had one.
 
Mount Greylock (3-1) hosts Mount Anthony on Monday at 4 p.m.
 
Monument Mountain (1-2) will play McCann Tech on Sunday morning at Dalton's Pine Grove Park in the Wahconah Tournament.
