DALTON, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley Hurricanes won the Wahconah baseball tournament Sunday afternoon, 9-5, over Monument Mountain in the finals at Wahconah High School.

After a 15-inning consolation game between Wahconah and McCann Tech, the Hurricanes were able to pull it out and get a victory just before 8 p.m.

It was a long day for all teams that participated; Hoosac in its first game of the tournament had a walk-off grand slam from Eric Sniezek to send them to the final with a 5-1 win over Wahconah.

After one inning between Hoosac and Monument the score was tied at 4-4.

In the top of the second Monument came out and put another run on the board to take a 5-4 lead; but Hoosac scored one to tie it at five off a stolen base and RBI single to Matt Koperniak.

Hoosac pitcher Matt Koperniak came back out in the third and had a 1-2-3 inning.

The Hurricanes shut down Monument the rest of the way; in the fourth they brought in four more runs for the final 9-5 win.

"Matt Koperniak started his first game," Hoosac coach Bob Rivard said. "He had some problems in the first inning, but came back out and shut them down."

Koperniak threw three strikeouts for the evening in five innings. Austin Frederick replaced him in the sixth.

Earlier in the day, Monument advanced past McCann Tech, and Hoosac Valley beat Wahconah in the tournament's opening round.
