NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- David Delisle and Colby Ghidotti each scored four goals Monday to lead  McCann Tech to an 11-1 win over Pathfinder as high school lacrosse returned to Berkshire County for the first time since June 2019.

Riley Fortini made three saves for the Hornets, who scored the game's first seven goals.

"It's just good to be outdoors again and doing stuff," said first-year coach (and school principal) Justin Kratz, who had the Hornets in camp for two weeks prior to the opener.

"We've been working on a lot of passing in practice, and I thought they moved the ball around well. There weren't a lot of dropped passes. I was happy with it. They were looking for their teammates.

"I thought they did a nice job today."

Delisle got the scoring started about three minutes into the game when he converted from the top of the box off a Ghidotti feed from behind the goal.

The same two hooked up again six minutes later, and Ghidotti scored in transition to give the Hornets a 3-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

McCann's offense was really clicking in the second quarter, when it generated four goals and put four more shots on Pathfinder keeper Andrew Hurst, who finished with 12 saves.

Ghidotti scored a man-down goal with about three minutes left in the first half to give McCann Tech a 7-0 lead, but Pathfinder answered with a man up goal at the other end, Ethan Roberts doing the honors to get the Pioneers on the scoreboard.

McCann Tech used goals from four different players to extend its lead in the third quarter. Delisle got things started with an assist from Lucan McGrath. Then Evan Rose scored off an outlet pass from longstick Keegan Dellaghelfa. Ghidotti scored his fourth goal to make it 10-1, and McGrath capped the scoring just before the quarter ended.

That was more than enough offense for Fortini and the Hornets' defensive corps.

"The players have been talking about wanting to be a defensive team, so as a coach, I love hearing that kind of stuff," Kratz said. "That's something they've identified themselves that they want to be.

"The guys that are playing defense have all played a good amount of lacrosse in the past. ... If we're green anywhere, it's less so on the defensive side of things."

McCann Tech looks for its second straight win to start the season on Wednesday when it goes to Monson.
