Wahconah sophomore Rylan Padelford last weekend earned a spot on the USA Indoor Lacrosse Under-15 team.

He captured one of 23 roster spots after excelling at a tryout camp in Rochester, N.Y., the final step in a long road that began last March.

That is when he started in a group of 150 players from around the country vying for a spot on the team. Just 40 were invited to a tryout camp in Boston in early September, and 27 from that group went to Rochester to try to make the final cut.

"Rylan has been playing lacrosse basically since he could walk," Eric Padelford said of his son. "He has also been playing box [indoor] lacrosse since he was 6 years old and has multiple years of playing in Canada and on Native-American reservation teams."

Last spring, Rylan was a starter on the Wahconah squad that won the school's first Western Massachusetts Championship. He earned Western Mass All-Star recognition for his efforts.

He and his Team USA teammates will compete in the International Indoor Junior Lacrosse Championships this weekend in Massena, N.Y.
