Defensive Stand-out: Jake Foehl

"We lost a tough one in a tough fashion this afternoon. We certainly played well enough to win or at least tie, so to come out on the short end against a good West Springfield stings."

"Sam got us on the board on a deflected left-footed shot that curled over the keeper in the 9th minute. They equalized right before half time. Cal made the initial save off a headed corner kick, but we were slow to react on the rebound and they pounded home the saved ball. We jumped into the lead again off of a nifty play between Grant Raphael and Sam. Grant sent in a direct kick from 45 yards out. Sam curled around the mass of players in front of the goal and Sam deftly nicked the ball with has head past the on-rushing goalie. Unfortunately, West Springfield came back seven minutes later on a corner that was headed directly in. The last score came off of a penalty kick. Cal Filson received a yellow card on the play that led to the PK, so we had to bring in Nick Bolognia fresh off the bench. Nick did his best but he guessed the wrong way."

"We finished up our out of county schedule today with a final record of 2-2-1. With several D1 schools on the schedule, .500 is about what we expected before the season started. Unfortunately, we really felt like we let the game get away from us today in the last 15 minutes. A win over West Springfield would have given us a good win to help with the new Walker system and tournament seeding."

"Pittsfield on Friday at Kirvin Park. They always play us tough so it should be a great mid-season league game."
