UPTON, Mass. -- Cameron Leary scored in overtime Thursday to give the Nipmuc girls lacrosse team a 14-13 win over Wahconah in the quarter-finals of the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 2 tournament.

Fourth-seeded Nipmuc (14-6) advanced to the sectional semi-finals against Bromfield while Wahconah ends its season with a record of 13-8-1.

"There is a saying that there is such a thing as a good loss," Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. "Losing in OT with 6 seconds left is heartbreaking for sure, but it showed us that we can compete.

"The game was pretty even the whole way. Both teams had good runs and scored. Unfortunately, they scored first in the overtime. We had our chances for sure."

Jilly Cote scored five goals, and Hannah Bowlby scored four for Wahconah. Grace Calvert scored twice in the loss.

Wahconah keeper Sydney Smith stopped seven shots.

"Fantastic season overall," Budaj said. "Games like this are good for the underclassmen to be a part of."
