WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass, -- The Mount Greylock girls lacrosse team Monday jumped out to a 10-6 lead and held on for a 10-9 win over East Longmeadow.

Emma Polumbo scored four goals, and Sarah Stripp had a hat trick with two assists as the Mounties (13-3) snapped a two-game losing streak.

“This was a great game and could easily have gone either way,” Mount Greylock coach Lindsey von Holtz said.

“Mount Greylock started the second half strong with four more goals to lead, 10-6, with 14 minutes left in the game but didn’t score again. East Longmeadow then scored four goals as well to bring the game to 10-9 with 5:52 left. Mount Greylock won the next draw and tried to hold possession but turned the ball over twice, but East Longmeadow was unable to take advantage of the opportunities.

“Julia Whitney was huge today with 11 saves.”

Mount Greylock goes to Manchester, Vt., to play Burr & Burton Academy on Saturday.
