CHESHIRE, Mass. -- Alie Mendel scored seven goals and assisted on one more Wednesday to lead the Hoosac Valley girls lacrosse team to a 14-5 win over Pittsfield.

Four of Mendel’s goals came in the second half.

“We came out flat in the first half and missed several open shots, including free shots,” Hoosac coach Molly Meczywor said. :In the second half, we pushed the ball down the field, scoring three goals in the first minute and a half, and found open space and goal. We also did a better job with the midfield pressure in the second half.”

Aubrey Rumbolt scored five times, and Claudia Bresset and Sara Tomkiewicz each added a goal for the Hurricanes (3-1), who got a pair of saves from Abi Disbrow. Mecywor called out Paige Barrow for solid play on defense.

Pittsfield got five goals from five different players and five saves from keeper Leehyia Hoose.

The Generals (0-3) go to Granby on Saturday.
