HARVARD, Mass. -- The Bromfield girls lacrosse team Friday defeated Mount Greylock, 17-3, in the championship game of the Central/Western Massachusetts Division 2 tournament.
"Mount Greylock's players gave it their very best effort but Bromfield had a deeper bench and a deeper pool of experienced players to draw from," Mount Greylock coach Steve Jones said.
"The final score of 17-3 was not indicative of the ferocity of the game. It is a credit to the resiliency and character of the MGRHS girls that they did not give up and gave their best effort to the end. I am proud of each of the Mount Greylock athletes, they are remarkable young women with very promising futures in front of them."
It was the third straight year that Bromfield knocked Mount Greylock (9-3) out of the sectional tournament.
"It speaks to the Bromfield coaches, players and parents that their program is so strong," Jones said. "We are only graduating three seniors and I am looking forward to see if Mount Greylock can turn this record around in the future."
Bromfield (17-0) advances to Tuesday's state semifinal against the champion of the South sectional.
