DeGrenier's Four Hits Push Devils Past PatriotsNORTH ADAMS, Mass — Senior captain Lyndsey DeGrenier helped the Drury softball team remain undefeated on Wednesday, going 4 for 4 with two triples and a double to lead her team to a 10-3 home win over Mount Anthony.
The Drury offense scored double-digit runs for the fourth game in a row, taking a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the third inning thanks to back-to-back RBI triples by DeGrenier and junior Amanda Ramsdell. Sophomore Cat Record singled in Ramsdell for the third run of the inning, giving herself a nice cushion to work with from the pitchers' circle.
The Patriots came back by scoring a run in the top of the fourth inning, but the Blue Devils (4-0) quickly answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. DeGrenier knocked in junior Katie Hancock, who went 3 for 4 with one RBI and three runs scored on the day, with her second triple of the game. DeGrenier then stole home to give the hosts a 5-1 advantage.
Mount Anthony kept the game close by scoring two more runs in the top of the sixth, but Drury came right back by scoring five runs on four hits in their half of the inning to put the game away. DeGrenier finished with three RBI and three runs scored, while Record went 2 for 4 with one run and one RBI. In addition to her RBI triple, Ramsdell stole three bases on the afternoon.
"Once again, when we began to hit, it became contagious," Blue Devils head coach Mary Ann Maroni said,
Kate Goodell led the Patriots with a 3-for-4 day at the plate, while teammate Morgan Hewitt added two hits of her own. Mount Anthony got to Record for 10 hits on the day, but it only score a pair of earned runs against her. Record went the distance, striking out five batters without a walk to improve her season record to 4-0.
Drury is now off until Monday, when it hosts rival Hoosac Valley at 4 p.m.
