NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Haley Malloy gave up just two hits while striking out five as the McCann softball team defeated Gateway, 27-2, in a game shortened to 4-1/2 innings by the mercy rule on Thursday.

Lexi Andrews went 2-for-5 with a walk, six RBIs and three runs scored, and Alanza Quinones went 2-for-3 with four RBIs for the Hornets (3-3).

"The girls came out and played as a team today," McCann coach Kate Galli said. "We came out strong in the first inning and never wanted to let up an inch.

"It was also great to see the team relax and make the plays defensively behind Haley. I'm proud of the way they handled themselves today."

Malloy picked up her first win of the season with the victory.

Jess Sunn was 2-for-2 with three walks, three runs scored and a couple of RBIs. Cheyanne Alcombright was 1-for-2, walked three times, scored three runs and drove in three.

McCann travels to face Central on Monday.
