Mount Everett Grad Bazonski Off to Strong Start in Circle

GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of North Carolina Greensboro sophomore Alicia Bazonski became the third Spartan in program history to earn three Southern Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week awards in a single season when she was announced as the Pitcher of the Week for games played March 14-20 by the league office Monday afternoon.

In four appearances, the Mount Everett graduate compiled a 3-0 record with a 1.64 earned run average en route to becoming the first SoCon pitcher to win back-to-back weekly honors this season.

Bazonski hurled 21.1 innings allowing just eight runs, five earned, over the course of the week. She struck out 13 and walked two as she faced 88 batters this and threw a complete game shutout Saturday, March 19, against Robert Morris in a 9-0 victory. Bazonski held batters to just four extra-hits and a .259 batting average.

She is 11-2 on the season and 8-1 at home with a 1.15 ERA at the UNCG Softball Stadium. In her last eight appearances she as a 7-0 record with a 0.85 ERA and is holding opponents to a .188 batting average. In the month of March, she has a 9-1 record with an 0.86 ERA and 37 strikeouts.

She joins Christine Hornak (’98) and Amber Harnell (’10) as the only UNCG pitcher to win three SoCon Pitcher of the Week awards in a season.
