FRANKLIN, Mass. -- The Hoosac Valley softball team was rewarded for its impressive 14-6 record this season by receiving a home game in the upcoming Division 2 Western Massachusetts Softball Tournament. The Hurricanes were seeded fourth in the bracket and will play host to No. 5 Frontier at 4 p.m. on Thursday afternoon.

The Redhawks finished the season with a record of 15-5. The two teams did not play each other in the regular season, so it might take a couple of innings for the two squads to feel each other out. The winner of Thursday's game moves on to play the winner of No. 1 Wahconah (19-1) and No. 10 Athol (10-10), who play at the same time on Thursday afternoon.

While Hoosac is unfamiliar with Frontier, it is plenty familiar with the Warriors, who come into the tournament as the defending WMass. champs. The Hurricanes are the only team this season to beat Wahconah, earning a 7-3 win in Dalton on April 20. The Warriors did get even, however, defeating Hoosac 4-0 at home nine days later.
