DALTON, Mass. -- When Jordyn Lummus stepped into the batter’s box with two on and two out in the top of the ninth inning on Tuesday night, she did not go it alone.

“It was my teammates encouraging us on,” she said. “Everyone was just pumped and wanting to win that game.

“And that just came on to me. Their excitement traveled … teleported.”

Fueled by that team energy, Lummus dropped a single into right field to score Brianna Clary and Mia Potash and send the Generals to a 3-1, come-from-behind win over Wahconah at Pine Grove Park.

Lummus already was a hero before that ninth-inning at-bat.

In the top of the seventh, she hit a two-out single to score Tess Lyon to force extra innings after the Generals trailed throughout the contest.

Pittsfield had two hits and no runs over the first six innings against Wahconah’s Abby Wells but had five hits and all three of its runs over the final three frames.

“We made adjustments, and we kind of got into a rhythm,” Pittsfield coach Greg Marchbanks said. “You know, we timed her up and started believing.

“You know, we’ve faced some tough pitchers. We faced [Hoosac Valley’s Madi] Puppolo yesterday. We faced the Taunton pitcher, who was the top pitcher in the state. We faced Acton, who had one of the top pitchers in their division.

“So it’s pitcher after pitcher, we keep seeing good pitchers. And [Wells] is a good pitcher. And now we are believing we can hit that.”

It was Wells the good hitter who struck first.

The Wahconah hurler helped her cause in the bottom of the first with a two-out, inside-the-park home run into the right-center gap.

Wahconah continued to apply pressure throughout the game, but Tess Lyons (five strikeouts) pitched her way out of through the rest of the way.

Lyon scattered 10 hits and stranded 10 runners to earn the win.

But despite her efforts, Pittsfield was not able to break through for the tying run until the last possible moment.

The Generals led off the top of the seventh with a basehit, but Wahconah catcher Jess Duma erased that runner with a perfect throw to Morgan for a caught stealing.

Wells then got the second hitter to ground out to third base.

But Lyon singled and raced all the way to third when her hit was misplayed in the outfield.

That brought up Lummus, the Generals’ No. 9 hitter, who delivered the first of her three RBIs to tie the game.

After a 1-2-3 inning for Wells in the circle to open extra innings, Lyon stranded runners on first and second in the bottom of the eighth with some help from second baseman Natasha Shade, who made a nifty play on a ball up the line behind first base.

Pittsfield then posted the game-winning rally to move to 4-2 on the season.

The Generals go back out of Berkshire County on Wednesday when they travel to Agawam.

Wahconah (3-1) will look to get back in the win column on Thursday at Hoosac Valley.
