PITTSFIELD, Mass. – Joss Mettey struck out eight in the circle and went 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs at the plate Wednesday to lead the Hampshire softball team to a 9-2 win over Pittsfield.

Molly Sherman went 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Ava Brazeau singled and drove in a run for the Generals.

The Generals had a 2-1 lead through four innings, but Hampshire broke the game open with a seven-run sixth.

“We had a couple of defensive miscues in the first, and after that, PHS settled down,” Pittsfield coach Jim Clary said. “Jordynn [Bazinet] settled down, sitting them down until the sixth, when they got a leadoff double, then a triple then a single and a few more hits.

“We left seven runners on base. We just could not get the timely hit.”

Bazinet and Julia Johansen split time in the circle for Pittsfield.

The Generals (2-3) host Easthampton on Friday.
