Record Sets The Tone In Win Over Taconic

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The offense of the Drury softball team broke out in a big way on Monday, collecting 15 hits on its way to a 6-1 home win over Taconic on Senior Day.

The Blue Devils (11-6) were slumping coming into Monday's game, averaging just three hits a contest over their past three games. Seven different Drury batters collected at least one hit each against the Braves, however, and Mary Ann Maroni's club took control of the game by scoring two runs apiece in each of the first three innings.

Senior Lyndsey DeGrenier led the way for the Devils' offense, going 4 for 4 with one RBI and a run scored. Sophomore Cat Record was also very solid, going 3 for 4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Senior Danielle Cardinal also chipped in with two hits and one RBI.

"The underclassmen dedicated the game to the seniors, as this was probably their last home game," Maroni said. "Having made that gesture, they had to string together some hits and some runs in order to record a win, and that they did. Not only did we find our bats, but we also put the wheels back on the bus and played a fantastic defensive game. This was a good tune-up for our last regular game of the season against PHS on Wednesday."

Besides smacking the only two-extra base hits of the game, Record (11-6) also put in a solid effort from the circle. The Blue Devils' starter allowed one earned run in the top of the first inning, but shut down Taconic from there, allowing five hits overall with three strikeouts and two walks. Kasey Turner was charged with the loss for the Braves, allowing five earned runs and two walks in three innings of work.
