WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass — The Mount Greylock softball team won its first four games of the season mostly with offense. On Wednesday, it was pitcher Heather Tomkowicz's turn to make a difference in the Mounties latest win.

The sophomore hurler overcame two unearned runs allowed in the top of the first inning to lead Greylock to a 5-2 victory over Taconic. Tomkowicz allowed just four hits the entire day, holding the Braves scoreless over the final six innings of play. She struck out six and didn't allow a single walk to improve her record to 5-0 this year.

"We got off to a slow start in this one," Mounties head coach June Blake said. "We allowed two unearned runs in the first on two errors. After that, we settled down and got the job done. We put the ball in play, and Taconic did a good job of making the plays."

The Mounties (5-0) tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the second inning and scored three more in the fourth, chasing Taconic starter Kasey Turner from the game. Sophomore Meredith Dezieck continued her strong play at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a run batted in. In five games this season, Dezieck is leading the team with a .611 average and 10 RBI.

Freshman Miranda Voller also went 2 for 3 with a pair of runs scored, while senior Caitie Benoit finished with a pair of solo home runs in the game, giving her three in five games so far this season.

Greylock returns to action again on Friday with a home game against McCann Tech at 4 p.m.
