NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Emma Goewey went 3-for-5 with a run batted in on Friday to lead the Mount Everett softball team to a 20-8 win over Smith Vocational.
Tonilyn Smith was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs for the Eagles, who got off to a fast start and never looked back.
“The girls set the tone with six runs in the first and four in the second,” Mount Everett coach Joshua King said. “We had a little hiccup with some errors and mental mistakes in the third, but we were able to turn it around in the fourth and fifth.”
Mariah Broderick allowed nine hits and struck out two to earn the win in the circle.
The 10th-seeded Eagles (6-8) move on to Monday’s quarter-final round at No. 2 Franklin Tech (15-2), a 13-1 winner over Granby on Friday.
