PITTSFIELD, Mass. -- Heather Tomkowicz and the Mount Greylock softball team continued to mow down the competition on Monday. The sophomore pitcher struck out eight batters and walked just one to lead the Mounties to their second straight shutout, a 10-0 win at Taconic.

Tomkowicz allowed just two hits the entire game, dropping her ERA to just 1.70 and improving her season record to 12-4 in the process. The Greylock sophomore also reached base five times, going 2 for 2 with three walks and three runs scored. One of those walks led to a five-run third inning for the Mounties, who capitalized on four base on balls and two Braves' errors in the frame. Sophomore Meredith Dezieck had an RBI single in the third and finished with three hits and three runs batted in.

Greylock (12-4) then put the game away for good by scoring three more times in the top of the fifth inning. The visitors collected six hits in all in the frame, including a two-run homer by Anna Penna. The junior shortstop collected three RBI in the game, while senior catcher Caitie Benoit went 2 for 3 with a walk to raise her team-leading batting average to an amazing .610 this season.

Kasey Turner gave up six runs in three innings of work to take the loss for Taconic. The Mounties next host Turners Falls at 4 p.m. on Thursday.
