WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- The Mount Greylock softball team's streak of 20 scoreless inning came to an abrupt end on Thursday, when Turners Falls erupted for two homers and five runs in the top of the fourth inning on its way to an 8-3 road win over the Mounties.

Greylock starter Heather Tomkowicz had been rolling coming into the game, allowing just two runs in her last three starts. The Mounties' sophomore tossed 20 scoreless innings in a row before the Indians tied Thursday's game with a single run in the top of the third frame. The visitors then broke the game open in the next inning, using a two-run home run by Amber Caouette and a solo shot from Jenna Putala to open a 6-1 lead.

"Turners Falls had four hits, two of which were home runs, and a walk in the fourth inning," Greylock head coach June Blake said. "It was a tough inning to recover from."

Tomkowicz struck out 12 batters and walked only one but allowed an uncharacteristic 11 hits to take the loss. She went the distance, allowing five earned runs to fall to 12-5 on the year. Dakota Smith-Porter earned the win in the circle for the Indians, allowing one earned run on four hits, striking out nine with three walks.

Mounties' captains Caitie Benoit and Michaela DiNicola each came through with RBI hits in the game. Benoit's RBI single in the bottom of the first inning gave Greylock (12-5) a 1-0 lead. DiNicola later drove in a pair of runs with a single in the bottom of the seventh.

The Mounties next play at Drury at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
