DALTON, Mass. -- Avery Vale-Cruz struck out 18 and allowed just three hits Saturday in pitching the Wahconah softball team to an 8-0 win over Taconic.

 

The victory improved Wahconah to 16-1 overall and 8-1 in the Franklin West league. The team has secured at least a share of the conference title with one more regular season game remaining, Tuesday at Mount Greylock.

 

Emma Belcher and Ella Quinto each went 2-for-3 in Saturday's win.

 

Anna Bongini, Leena Schettini and Neveah Smith each had a hit for Taconic.

 

The Thunder (5-9) go to Mount Greylock on Sunday morning.
