Mounties Make Short Work of Eagles

SHEFFIELD, Mass — There's strong starts, and then there is the first quarter the Mount Greylock boys' basketball team put up against Mount Everett on Monday night.

Traveling to the bottom of Berkshire County in the beginning of the week didn't affect the Mounties, who jumped all over the Eagles with a 27-2 run to start the game. That was all the cushion Greylock would need in order to earn a 72-24 win on the road. Bob Thistle's squad put 10 different players in the scoring column, taking advantage of a 49-11 halftime lead to empty its bench in the second half.

"We came out hard and got out on them early," Thistle said. "Everyone got playing time, and it is nice to improve our record to 13-4. We have three tough games left, which will hopefully help us get ready for the tournament."

Senior forward Avery Cunningham went 4 of 5 from downtown to score 12 points for the Mounties, who also received 12 points and three assists from sophomore guard Tyrell Thomas. Senior guard Billy Pulasky added nine points off the Greylock bench, while reserve forward Zach LeBarron chipped in with eight points and a team-high 14 rebounds.

Colby Rueger scored more than half of Everett's points on the night, finishing the game with 13.

The Mounties return to action on Thursday night, when they host Monument Mountain for a game at 7 p.m.
