NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- The Wahconah boys basketball team was able to pull away and outscore Drury, 23-11, in the fourth quarter for a 62-46 victory Tuesday evening in Bucky Bullett Gymnasium.

With the win, Wahconah tallies its fourth straight, while on the other end the Blue Devils recorded their third loss in a row.

Drury, playing its fourth game in the past six days, trailed by one point after the first quarter; it outscored Wahconah, 12-10, in the second and was able to take the lead going into half-time, but only by one point, 26-25.

“We needed to pick up our intensity in the defensive end and some of our shots just weren’t falling in the first half,” Wahconah coach Dustin Belcher said. “Once we started to see the ball go through the rim it seemed to turn around a bit and the kids responded well defensively in the second half.”

Wahconah came out in the third quarter and moved the ball inside, getting up some quick baskets; it also earned some offensive boards to get second possessions. On the other end, the Blue Devils were rushing their offense and they weren’t getting get looks at the hoop.

With three minutes remaining the quarter, Drury coach Jack Racette called a timeout down seven, (37-30). The Blue Devils came back out and switched to man-to-man defense. They were able to bring the lead within four points at the end of the quarter (39-35).

“They started getting a lot of good looks,” Racette said about the switch in defenses.

Wahconah came out in the fourth and was able to pull away from Drury for the win.

“We’re just tired, we played four games in six days,” Racette said. “We’re not getting any rest, we have to go to Hoosac on Friday then we’ll start getting our stuff together, we’re a good team, we’ll be okay.”

Collin Parrott finished with 18 points for Wahconah; both Cole Morrison and Kevin Boino had 15.

For Drury, Justin Girard put up 15, Nick Trombley had 10, and Kareen Beckett had nine.

Drury (8-4) travels to Hoosac Valley Friday evening for a 7 p.m. start. Wahconah (7-4) travels to Taconic Friday.
