NORTH ADAMS, Mass — It's been a long, uneven road at times, but the McCann Tech boys' basketball team finally found its way back to the .500 mark with a 56-35 home win over Westfield Vocational on Monday night. The Hornets lost five straight games to top-notch Berkshire County teams to start the season but have gone 8-3 since, including a 7-3 mark in Tri-County League play.

Justin Kratz's squad won its latest game because of a staunch defensive effort that held the Tigers to eight points or less in all but one quarter of play. McCann jumped on the visitors early, taking a 17-6 lead after the first quarter before going into halftime up 29-14. The Hornets put the game away in the third quarter, outscoring Westfield 17-5 in the frame.

Senior forward Mike Chappell led the hosts with 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. Senior center Zach Giron added 10 points and six boards, while junior guard Justin Cote chipped in with nine points.

McCann next plays at Pathfinder at 7 p.m. on Thursday night.
