NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — Jake Tower led all scorers Thursday to power the McCann Tech Hornets to a 66-56 over St. Mary’s.

Twelve of Tower’s 22 points came from behind the arc including three straight 3s in the second quarter.

Ethan Sheldon helped out with 14 points of his own while Steve LeMire scored 10.

For St. Mary’s (1-3), Jake Butler had 19 points and Drew Collins had 16.

McCann (6-1) came out the gates firing on all cylinders as it jumped out to an early lead. LeMire had a quarter to remember, scoring all 10 of his points early.  The defensive pressure of McCann looked like too much for the Saints to handle as the Hornets took a 20-6 lead going into the second quarter. The Saints did not yield as they went on an impressive 9-0 run to start the second.

“We have been giving up big leads all year that is one thing we will have to tighten up. We are getting out to them which is good, but we are giving them up and that’s something we need to stop doing going forward” McCann Coach Chris Bullett said.

After a few adjustments, the Hornets went on a run of their own behind senior Tower, ending the half on a good note and a 34-24 lead.

“He’s [Jake Tower] our captain he has the green light in his hand. We are going to go as far as he can take us, he has heart and he will lead us to wherever we are going to go,” Bullett said.

Second half action went back and forth as both teams had trouble slowing the opposition down. It wasn’t until the fourth quarter where McCann really put the game out of reach as they coasted to a 10-point victory.

McCann will go on the road to face Westfield Tech Academy on Monday and St. Mary will do a quick turnaround and play Lee at home Friday night.
