CHESHIRE, Mass. – Daniel Punchard scored 23 points Tuesday to lead the Hull boys basketball team to a 52-44 win over Hoosac Valley in the Sweet 16 of the Division 5 State Tournament.

Punchard scored 11 points in the fourth quarter, when Hull held off a Hoosac Valley comeback bid.

Caleb Harrington scored 11 points to lead the Hurricanes (16-7), who got eight points from Mike Szabo and seven points apiece from Carson Meczywor and Joey McGovern.

“Tough night for the Hurricanes,” Hoosac Valley coach Bill Robinson said. “Hull played a diamond-and-one on Carson Meczywor about halfway through the second quarter, and Hoosac struggled to make shots.”

Twelfth-seeded Hull moves on to the state quarter-finals, where it will face the winner of Wednesday’s game between Paulo Freire and Westport.
