McGovern Leads Way as 'Canes Wrap Up State Tourney Bid

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Joey McGovern scored 27 points, and the Hoosac Valley boys basketball team Saturday came back from a 12-point halftime deficit to get its 10th win of the season and qualify for the state tournament.
 
McGovern hit a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points in the third quarter, when the Hurricanes outscored their hosts, 20-13.
 
In the decisive fourth quarter, McGovern hit another 3 and went 4-for-6 at the foul line to help Hoosac Valley put away the win.
 
Kaden Katro scored 15 points, and Michael Szabo added 10.
 
The Hurricanes (10-6) will look to improve their seed in the state tourney on Monday when they host Baystate.
