CHESHIRE, Mass. -- In a perfect world, the members of the Hoosac Valley boys basketball team would have spent Saturday resting up from Friday night's win over Drury, catching up on some homework, maybe getting ready to watch the Hoosac girls in a big game that night.

In reality, the Division 2 Hurricanes had to suit up for a 1 p.m. game against Division 1 Amherst.

The results were, shall we say, predictable.

Devonte McCall scored 16 to lead four Amherst players in double figures in a 62-46 win over Hoosac.

The Canes were able to hang around most of the afternoon.

It was a five-point game, 34-29, midway through the third quarter when Tyrell Jackson and Tom Cook hit 3-pointers on consecutive possessions to put Amherst ahead by 11.

Hoosac never got closer than nine the rest of the way.

The high-water mark for Amherst came midway through the fourth when McCall got loose on a breakaway and threw down a dunk to make it 62-39.

Matt Braman scored 13 for Hoosac Valley, which also got 11 from Sean Ryan-Kut.

The Hurricanes (8-2) travel to Pittsfield on Monday to face Taconic.
