FRANKLIN, Mass. – Adam Bush, a senior at Hoosac Valley High School, has been selected as the recipient of the “MIAA Student-Athlete of the Month Award" for January 2018.

Bush has been a four year starter on the varsity football team and served as captain for the past two seasons. He was also selected as captain of the basketball and lacrosse teams, in recognition of his steady dedication, leadership skills and overall commitment to both his athletic endeavors and his teammates.

In the fall, Bush led the Hurricanes football team to the MIAA State Championship Game played at Gillette Stadium.

“Adam is a student-leader, a strong athlete, and a positive, contributing member of our academic community,” Hoosac Valley Athletic Director Molly Meczywor said. “Over the past four years, he has proven time and time again that he possesses the sportsmanship, character and integrity that the MIAA strives to see.”

Academically, Bush challenges himself with a demanding curriculum of honors and Advanced
Placement courses while maintaining a 3.6 GPA. Teachers consistently mention him as a leader in the classroom, working several days a week leading study groups for student athletes as well as National Honor Society tutoring sessions. He has earned a sport on the High Honor Roll every quarter.

In addition to his academic and athletic success, Bush plays an important role through his volunteer and community involvement efforts. He was selected to serve on the first Athletic Leadership Council, a recognized school group that meets monthly and organizes community projects. Furthermore, Bush spends many nights a week volunteering with youth sports in town, whether officiating, score keeping or coaching, and constantly serves as a positive role model for young athletes.

“He is a great young man that I am very proud to have worked with and I consider myself lucky to be able to have watched Adam grow and benefit from all of the work he has done to help improve our football program and our school,” Hoosac Valley football coach Dayne Poirot said.
