DALTON, Mass. -- Kevin Huban scored 22 points, and Tom O’Connor had a double-double Friday night as the Wahconah boys basketball team defeated Mount Greylock, 66-33, in Ed Ladley Gymnasium.

Wahconah (3-1) took control of the game with a 9-0 run to open the second quarter that opened up a 29-13 lead.

The Wahconah defense put a stranglehold on the Mounties (2-3) through the middle of the game, allowing just 10 points in the second and third quarters, combined.

Transition offense was a key all night for Wahconah, and its 9-0 spurt in the second started when Huban scored on the break following an O’Connor rebound to make it 22-13.

O’Connor finished with 15 points and 15 boards. He put back his own miss to give his team a 25-13 lead.

Huban finished the decisive run by scoring in transition and then getting a steal at one end and a lay-in at the other to make it 29-13.

The Mounties trailed, 31-17, at the break, and any chances they had dissipated in an 11-2 Wahconah run to start the third quarter.

Huban scored nine points in that run, including a 3-pointer.

Jake Gai scored seven, and Luke Hescock had 12 rebounds for Wahconah.

The Mounties were led by Mac Waynick with 10 points. Derek Paris had nine points and five rebounds, and Toby Foehl scored eight in the loss.

Mount Greylock travels to face Pittsfield on Thursday.

Wahconah goes to Lee on Jan. 5.
