NORTH ADAMS, Mass —  The Drury boys' basketball team got the start it needed but not the finish it wanted in Thursday night's 71-59 loss to rival Hoosac Valley.

The Blue Devils (7-12), which at times have been offensively challenged this season, busted out of the gates early by scoring 25 points in the first quarter alone. The Hurricanes (15-5) kept within striking distance, however, and trailed by just five points after eight minutes of play. The two teams got much more defensive in the second quarter, though, combining for just 21 points overall in the frame. The hosts went into the locker room with a 36-30 lead, but the second half would tell a much different story as the Hoosac offense found its a way after the break, outscoring Drury by nine points each in both the third and fourth quarters.

Senior Nate Alibozek led all scorers for the 'Canes, sinking five 3-pointers on his way to 21 points. Classmates Andrew Harmon and Nick Aitken helped out with 16 and 11 points, respectively, while junior forward Slater Aubin netted 10 points of his own.

Four Blue Devils scored in double figures, led by junior Robert Jutras with 16 points. Senior forward Tyler Benoit hit four threes on the night on his way to 14 points, while sophomore Nolan Bird and senior Cody Wemette added 13 and 11 points, respectively.

With the victory, Hoosac finishes the season with a record of 15-5 and has now beat its rival to the north seven straight times dating back to the 2007-08 season. The Blue Devils still have one more game remaining against Taconic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday night.
