Drury Starts Slow in Loss to Lee

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — A second straight slow start led to the Drury boys' basketball team's second straight defeat to a tough South Division opponent on Saturday.

One game after managing only five points in the second quarter against Lenox, the Blue Devils struggled out of the gate against Lee, trailing 15-6 after the first quarter of play. The Wildcats kept Drury in its rear-view mirror the rest of the way, eventually winning 56-47 in the final game of the Coaches vs. Cancer tournament held at MCLA.

After trailing 25-18 heading into halftime, the Blue Devils (3-4) saw the game slip away in the third quarter when Lee (6-1) extended its lead to 15 points heading into the fourth. Jack Racette's squad earned a 15-9 edge in the final frame, but it wasn't enough to avoid losing its second straight game.

"We only scored six points in the first quarter," Racette said. "The rest of the way we played them pretty even. I'm always leery about putting up five or six points in one quarter. If you do that and expect to win, you better be playing some really good defense."

Jake LePrevost and Zac Kelly each had 11 points for the Wildcats. Drury, meanwhile, didn't have a single player reach double digits in scoring. Junior forward Nolan Bird finished with nine points and eight rebounds, while senior guard Joel Giorgi drained one of his team's five threes on the night to also finish with nine points.

The Devils next host Taconic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
