Wahconah Boys Survive Low-Scoring Battle at Drury

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — After formidable defensive performances from both teams, the Wahconah Regional High School boys basketball team pulled ahead in the fourth quarter to get a 55-43 road win over Drury. 
 
Brody Calvert led Wahconah and all scorers in the game with 17 points, while Lucas Pickard had 16 with five 3-pointers. Louis Guillotte led Drury with 15 points. 
 
Wahconah held Drury to only six points in the first quarter, with the score ending in 14-6 at the end of the first eight minutes. The Blue Devils took back control of the game in the second quarter and did not allow Wahconah to score for nearly five minutes, culminating in a 16-14 lead with 3:30 left in the first half.
 
Wahconah managed to weather Drury's second-quarter run and tie the game at 18-18 going into the second half. Steals, blocks, deflections and overall strong defense from both teams kept the game close, with neither team taking a double-digit lead in the first half. 
 
In the third quarter, The visitors managed to get out ahead despite offensive and defensive pressure from Drury, ending the quarter with a 31-26 lead. The Blue Devils played with significant intensity throughout the game, with four players on the team picking up two or more fouls, with three of them getting four or more. 
 
Entering the fourth quarter with a five-point deficit, Drury managed to keep pace to start, even with full-court defense from Wahconah. 
 
Wahconah held onto a 36-33 lead with six minutes left in the game and was able to put the game away with several crucial steals and deflections late in the quarter.
 
After the win, Wahconah holds a 5-0 season record and will play on the road against Palmer at 7 p.m. on Monday. Drury sits at 5-2 after the loss and will play at home against Hopkins at 7 p.m. on Monday.
