Hoosac Drops Tough One to Sabis

ADAMS, Mass — Down by nine points at halftime, the Hoosac Valley boys' basketball team made a good run in the second half to give itself a chance to earn a win against visiting Sabis on Friday night. In the end, though, the Hurricanes left a few too many plays on the court, allowing the Bulldogs to walk out of the gym at Adams Memorial School with a 59-52 win.

"We were down by one point with the ball and 1:28 to play," Hoosac head coach Bill Robinson said. "We set up a play, got the ball inside and missed an open lay-up. We got the rebound but missed that as well. Sabis rebounded and was able to score in transition, increasing their lead to three. We then missed two foul shots, and Sabis scored again.

"Game over."

It wasn't the ending Robinson was hoping for, but the Hurricanes' coach had to have been pleased with his team's effort to get back into the game after being down 31-22 at the half. Hoosac (1-12) outscored the Bulldogs (4-9) 16-11 in the third quarter to pull within four points heading into the fourth but couldn't come up with the key basket it needed late in the game.

Sophomore guard Matt Braman did his part for the 'Canes, scoring a game-high 19 points to go along with three rebounds and two assists. Hoosac also got a double-double out of sophomore forward Trevor Alibozek, who finished the game with 11 points and 10 boards. Jeff Mueller led Sabis with 17 points, while Justin Cruz and Xavier Garcia each chipped in with 11 points apiece.

The Hurricanes travel to Lee for their next game on Monday night. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
