EASTHAMPTON, Mass. – Kyle Wellenkamp scored 18 points, and the Monument Mountain boys basketball team Monday used a 28-6 run to close the first half en route to a 66-31 win over Easthampton in the Spartans’ regular season finale.
“Easthampton came out with a lot of emotion on their Senior Night and hung with us in the first quarter,” Monument Mountain coach Randy Koldys said.
The Spartans led, 38-16, at half-time. Any hopes of an Easthampton comeback were dashed in the third quarter, when Wellenkamp hit four 3-pointers and scored 14 points as the Spartans outscored their hosts, 25-5.
Khalil Carlson finished with 14 points, and Manny Brown scored 10 in the win. Griffin McElroy and Isaiah Keefner scored nine and eight, respectively.
Monument Mountain (16-2) wrapped up sole possession of the Bi-County East Championship with an 11-1 league record with the win. It awaits its quarter-final game in next week’s Western Massachusetts regional tournament.
