Barrett Leads Mounties to Big Win over Lenox

LENOX, Mass — The Mount Greylock boys' basketball team followed up its only loss of the season with one of its biggest victories of the year so far, defeating Lenox 76-68 on the road Tuesday night.
Junior guard Hank Barrett scored a game-high 23 points to go along with six assists and six steals for the Mounties, who improved their record to 7-1 with a key South Division win over the Millionaires (6-2). Barrett went 10 of 12 from the free-throw line, helping Greylock to a 21 of 24 night from the charity stripe. The game was close throughout, but Mounties head coach Bob Thistle said his team's adjustment on the defensive end was key in helping the visitors earn a six-point edge in scoring in the second half.
"It was a great game and a big win for us on the road against last year's Western Mass. champs," Thistle said. "We made some adjustments at halftime and went straight man to man. Our guys did a better job of getting on the glass, pushing, taking care of and sharing the ball. We got to the hoop and made our free throws. It was a balanced scoring attack, and we got deeper into our bench, which I was pleased with."
Sophomore guard Tyrell Thomas flirted with a triple-double with Greylock, scoring 18 points, grabbing eight rebounds and dishing out seven assists. Junior center Tyler Picard added 16 points and six boards for the Mounties, who led by just two points at halftime before a 25-point third quarter allowed them to earn a seven-point leading heading into the fourth.
Peter Vahle was the high man for Lenox with 21 points. Chris Bravo added 19 points for the hosts, while Seamus Ryan chipped in with 17.
After taking down one of the many top dogs in the South Division, Greylock will next try to knock off Lee, who has a similar 7-1 record, in home game scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday night.
"We beat a strong team," Thistle said. "Our next challenge is a big one."
